Ethernet digital I/O system, 16 digital inputs/outputs, 24 V, IP 65

novembre 14, 2016

Data acquisition systems
The intelligent Ethernet digital I/O system MSX-E1516 by Addi-Data is used to acquire and process I/O signals directly close to the test item in a harsh, industrial environment. Thanks to the degree of protection IP 65, the extended temperature range and the protective circuitries you can save the costs of expensive switching cabinets. The Ethernet digital I/O system can be connected to a PLC directly via the Ethernet switch and can be cascaded and synchronized with other systems in the MSX-E series (including length measurement, analog I/O signals, incremental counters and sensors). Dual LEDs specify the direction and status of all 24 V lines. M12 screw-in connectors were preferred to normal connectors to simplify wiring and reduce installation times.
The Ethernet digital I/O system MSX-E1516 has 16 digital lines which can be parameterised as inputs or outputs. One M12 socket connector is thus assigned two lines. To safeguard the application, the lines on the digital I/O system are set to “input” when the power is switched on. The outputs are configured as high-side switches (load to ground) and work with a nominal voltage of 24 V and an output current of 500 mA. Via a programmable watchdog, the outputs can be set to “0”.

3 fast counter inputs for PCIe digital I/O board APCIe-1500-FC

octobre 17, 2016

PCI Express card
The new digital I/O board APCIe-1500-FC for PCI-Express has 3 fast counter inputs that allow a maximum input frequency of 140 kHz (every 7 µs) instead of 10 kHz (every 100 µs) as featured on the standard APCIe-1500. Thus the counters can detect and count events (such as alternating edges) much faster. The board has 16 filtered inputs, including 14 interruptible inputs, and 16 outputs. It is developed for I/O control in the industrial field and thus comes with numerous protective circuits such as optical isolation of 1000 V, filters, reverse voltage protection etc. For testing and setting up the board functions, a monitoring program is included. The following drivers are available: 64- and 32-bit drivers for Windows 8/7/XP as well as Linux drivers. For real-time applications with Windows, RTX and RTX64 extensions are available.
In compliance with the industrial standard, “logic 1” corresponds to an input voltage of > 19 V, “logic 0” corresponds to an input voltage of < 14 V. An initialisation of the inputs is not necessary as the digital information can be read directly at “power on”. The outputs work with the positive logic, this means the output is set through software to “logic 1”.  The output current is 500 mA per channel. To guarantee a safe starting of the equipment, the outputs are set to “0” after reset. In case of voltage drop the outputs are deactivated. The readable status register allows to detect short circuits, over-temperature, voltage drop or watchdog. The board has an interrupt line, defined through the BIOS. Several interrupt sources such as interruptible inputs, timer, watchdog, counter overflow etc. can be read. The information about the source is available in the interrupt routine. For the 3 timers, a time base independent from the PC cycle can be defined, for example to synchronise operations. Timer 0 can be programmed as watchdog for resetting the outputs to “0”. The time units µs, ms and s time can be set for the watchdog.

Simultaneous length measurement with temperature and position reference

mai 03, 2016

Data acquisition systems
The intelligent Ethernet system MSX-E3711 acquires simultaneously the values of 8 LVDT or half-bridge transducers with a resolution of 24-bit and can provide data about temperature and position for each measured value. Therefore the system is adequate on the one hand for quality control in applications that require a temperature reference. On the other hand it can be used for dynamic measurement of surfaces of rotating parts to accelerate the test process.
The system MSX-E3711 withstands everyday impacts like current peaks, vibrations, dirt or extreme temperatures with a robust metal housing and the IP 65 degree of protection. Furthermore, it can be used in the temperature range -40°C / +85°C and it is equipped with numerous protective circuitries. The system can be cascaded through the Ethernet switch and it can be synchronised in the μs range with other systems of the product family, for example with digital I/O or counter function and analog inputs or outputs. Easy error diagnostics is possible with the LED status display.
Several communication interfaces are integrated  in the MSX-E3711: The webserver simplifies configuration and monitoring. The access to the system is realised by the TCP/IP Socket or UDP; and a command server (SOAP or MODBUS) sends the commands. A dataserver serves for the transfer of the acquired values and the eventserver serves for sending to the system events like temperature and short-circuit diagnostics. The length of the Ethernet cable between system and computer can be up to 150 m. 5-pin M18 connectors were used instead of common connectors to simplify the wiring and to reduce the mounting times.
For the processing of the acquired signals the ARM®9 technology was selected. With this measurement data can be digitized, data can be packed in packages with time stamp, minimum, maximum and average value can be calculated and can be buffered in the Onboard RAM. Drivers for  WindowsTM Vista (32-bit)/XP/2000  and programming samples  for .net2003 and VC++ 6.0 are contained in the standard delivery.

20 Hz filter for temperature measurement system

avril 15, 2016

Data acquisition systems
Intelligent Ethernet system acquires thermocouples, NTCs and RTDs

The intelligent Ethernet system by Addi-Data ist now available with a 20 Hz filter option for the inputs. This 24-bit system enables to measure temperatures directly at the sensor in a quick and precise way. Two versions are available: one version with 16, the other with 8 differential inputs for connecting thermocouples, NTC thermistors or resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), such as Pt100 or Pt1000. The Ethernet system MSX-E3211 is equipped with an ARM®9 processor and 64 MB SDRAM. This allows the measurement values to be acquired, processed and stored directly on the spot. The MSX-E3211 can work both in stand-alone operation and with higher-level controls, using standard Ethernet. For reliable use in harsh industrial environments, the MSX-E3211 is protected by a robust metal housing and has been equipped with a number of protective circuits. It also complies with the IP 65 degree of protection and is designed for the extended temperature range from -40 °C to +85 °C. With the DatabaseConnect software, the measurement values are provided in databases.

The parameters of the measuring system can be configured by mouse-click on the MSX-E3211 website. No knowledge of programming is necessary. Directly on the website, the user can also monitor the measurement values which the system acquires. The acquisition is launched either by an external 24 V hardware trigger signal, by software command or by an additional MSX-E-type Ethernet system. Two acquisition modes are possible: Auto-refresh mode, which automatically updates the acquired data in the background, and Sequence mode, with which the data is acquired in packets. The “Autogain” functionality automatically adapts the gain of the signal to the measurement range. Errors can be quickly diagnosed by means of LEDs, which provide information on the current status of the MSX-E3211. For acquiring more than 16 sensors, several MSX-E3211 Ethernet systems can be cascaded using the integrated Ethernet switch. This also makes it possible to acquire different temperature sensors. The channels of the different systems can be acquired simultaneously thanks to synchronisation in the µs range outside the Ethernet network.

Numerous free drivers and samples belong to the module. The module can be called from a PC by a direct TCP/IP access. The user can connect the I/O systems via Ethernet with PCs on which operating systems are installed which support the standard transmission protocols SOAP and Socket TCP/IP. These include Windows (Vista 64 bit included) and Linux. To simplify commissioning and programming, samples are supplied for Visual C 6.0, C#, .net2005 for Windows 32-bit operating systems. A configuration tool provides the user with information like serial number, firmware version and IP address. The user can update the firmware and change the IP address.

Due to its precisely defined input range, the board switches reliably to “0” or “1” even in case of interferences. With a “low” level from 0-14 V and a “high” level from 19-30 V the input ranges are set very wide. 16 interruptible inputs help to take load of the main programs by taking over routine monitoring or evaluation tasks. To avoid undefined states the 32 outputs stay on “state 0” while the PC is booted. A status register with read-out function allows to detect short-circuits or overvoltage.

To assure the interference resistance of the board and to guarantee a smooth operation in applications the digital inputs and outputs are optically isolated up to 1000 V and protected against fast transients (burst), electrostatic discharge and high-frequency EMI. The high side switch outputs are (in opposite to the open collector outputs) designed for inductive loads and PTC thermistors. They work with a nominal voltage of 24 V and an output current of 500 mA and are protected against short-circuits, overtemperature and undervoltage. A timer / watchdog acts as a safety system for the 24 V outputs, another timer is used for the cyclical generation of an interrupt.
