By definition, biocides are active substances intended to destroy harmful organisms, repel them or render them harmless. The active substances forming the biocidal product may be a chemical compound or come from a microorganism.

Biocides are an integral part of everyday life and come in the form of disinfectants, protective products (for example wood protection products, etc.), rodent control products, insecticides, anti-fouling paints, etc. They act on or against harmful organisms by chemical or biological action of the active substances.

Biocides can harm health or the environment, for this reason their use must be moderate.
