“ BRASS PRESSURE DIE-CASTING, THE ANSWER TO MATERIAL COST INCREASES Material cost of a part (€) = weight (Kg)*material price (€/Kg) What can we do? Playing on material costs ? Material costs are at an all-time high. They are subjected to worldwide events, supply and demand ratios, strained social relationships, speculating… It seems impossible for the industries to reduce this impact. Playing on part weight ? It is possible. The weight of copper alloy components and especially brass parts can be reduced. Optimizing the product’s design and reducing wall thickness offer significant material savings. Pressure die-casting is the technology for medium and high volumes, which is ideal for the production of parts with thin walls and complex shapes. It has a lasting effect on material cost reduction. 20% reduction is attainable. FAVI S.A. is the Worldwide leader in copper alloy pressure die-casting (copper, brass) ”

Copper alloys offer mechanical and physical properties which can meet very high requirements.

Their properties include: high resistance to wear and tear, corrosion, dezincification and suitability for polishing and chromium plating.

Pressure die casting allows the manufacture of simple parts as well as complex parts on which crimping, insert moulding and all kinds of assembly are possible.

An optimized material value

Inner surfaces of parts are generally 2 mm thick but can go down to 0.8 mm.

Pressure die casting is dedicated to minimum demands of 10,000 (ten thousand) parts per year to

amortize specific investments. In addition, pressure die casting can be of interest to the manufacture of parts in small quantities: in those specified cases, the manufactured part replaces the introduction of several assembled or welded parts, significantly reduces the mass and offers a precision that no other technology can offer.
