Formerly known as Daewoo Heavy Industry & Machinery, now part of the Doosan Group, the only chaebol with an American chief executive: James Bemowski, a former McKinsey consultant in Korea. Doosan Infracore builds construction equipment, diesel engines and armored vehicles. Set up a subsidiary in China that now controls 24% of the market for excavation equipment. Chairman Yong-Maan Park, who put together the Bobcat deal, says he is interested in buying another part of the former Daewoo empire: Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine.
