Today’s trend is towards the miniaturization of small components in all fields of high technology, where the maxim “Lighter, smaller, cheaper and in large quantity” prevails. Tried and tested, but comparatively more expensive threaded fasteners cannot however be sacrificed on the altar of rationalization.

Machining true-to-gauge threads in such microstructures is an art, since even tiny variations in ambient temperature can have adverse effects. Since the gauging of mini threads has its limits, extreme dimensional demands are made on the thread taps: only a precisely ground tool with highly accurate dimensions and concentricity to the nearest micron, which had never been achieved to date, can meet such requirements in an industrial application.
