Leichtmetall Aluminium Gießerei Hannover specialises in the production of continuous cast hard alloy aluminium with ingot lengths of up to 7 metres and currently a diameter of up to 685 mm. In a short time Leichtmetall will be able to cast diameters of up to approx. 1,200 mm. In order to separate the billets after casting into shorter sections between 500 mm and 6,000 mm in length, the company was looking for a strong and at the same time precise bandsaw that was up to the task.

The company found what it was looking for in the models of the BEHRINGER large bandsaw series, which are specially designed for large diameters and extreme material weights. In other words, they are ideal for sawing heavy continuous castings with weights of up to 3,200 kg/m and diameters of up to 1,300mm. With the robust material handling system, the hard alloys billets are positioned centrically and then cut extremely efficiently with the high-performance band saw. The sawing line is equipped with an effective extraction system for the aluminium dusts produced.

Together with the customer, Behringer carried out cutting tests on the HBM1300Z. Here, the various starting materials were sawn in several passes with different cutting parameters in order to evaluate the effect on chip formation and surface quality. Leichtmetall Hannover was more than satisfied with the sawing results. The previous cutting times can be significantly reduced with the new sawing line from Behringer, enabling the company to establish fast process flows and material throughputs.
