FARO Releases High-Resolution Array Imager for Factory Metrology and Product Design Applications

octobre 04, 2016

Contactless 3D measurement
Lake Mary, FL, September 9, 2016 - FARO® (NASDAQ:FARO), the world’s most trusted source for 3D measurement and imaging solutions for factory metrology, product design, construction BIM/CIM, public safety forensics and 3D solutions and services applications, announces the launch of a higher resolution version of the FARO® Cobalt Array Imager solution, geared toward quality inspection, factory automation and in-process verification (IPV) applications.

The new 9MP version of the Cobalt Array Imager is a higher resolution model of the Cobalt platform, which FARO introduced earlier this year.  The 9MP version is ideally suited for manufacturers, particularly automotive and aerospace manufacturers, where there is a need to capture fine details and features on edges and surfaces including stamped, machined or engraved parts.  The current 5MP version remains the ideal solution for customers who do not require high-resolution data capture.  Both versions feature on-board processing, blue light technology, interchangeable lenses, high dynamic range and automatic exposure.

On-board processing, an industry first, means that the Cobalt Array Imager is a smart sensor. This capability enables unique multi-imager array configurations of an unlimited number of Cobalt sensors.  Multi-imager arrays expand the scan area to deliver rapid and automated inspection of all surfaces of an object, dramatically reducing cycle time.  The actionable data is delivered as a simple go/no-go result or an easy-to-read dimensional deviation color map.

“FARO’s portfolio of Cobalt Array Imagers is designed for the factory floor and production environments so they can be used anywhere inspection is needed,” stated Joe Arezone, Chief Commercial Officer of FARO.  “The Cobalt is deployable in both near-line and in-line inspection applications, which allow this solution to align with lean manufacturing principles of eliminating unnecessary movements and time.  The new 9MP version enhances Cobalt’s attractiveness for applications requiring higher resolution scan data and provides our customers with more options to select the version best tailored to their needs.”

Mr. Arezone added, “Our initial release of the Cobalt Array Imager was well received as a product which allows businesses to simultaneously improve both quality and productivity.  The Cobalt is a simple-to-use solution, ideal for maximizing productivity and automated workflows throughout the factory.  This is particularly true when using the Cobalt in automated inspection processes that may include deploying multiple Cobalt sensors in multi-imager array configurations or attaching one or more Cobalts to a robot.  Moreover, Cobalt is priced for rapid return on investment and offers unparalleled value.”

FARO® Introduces the Factory Robo-Imager, the first Factory Automation Solution and Second Product in FARO’s new Early Adopter (EA) Program

avril 17, 2016

3D scanner
Rugby, UK, April 25, 2016 - FARO Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:FARO), the world’s most trusted source for 3D measurement and imaging with solutions in Metrology, Factory Automation, Product Design, Public Safety and BIM/CIM, announces the launch of the FARO® Factory Robo-Imager product line, a system that combines the FARO Factory Array Imager with a collaborative-robot to provide highly adaptable, safe and automated in- and near-line inspection solutions.  FARO’s Early Adopter (EA) Program provides leading edge products to qualified customers for limited product introductions. Sign up for the FARO EA Program at:  http://www.faro.com/early_adopter/

This product line pairs our newest sensor, the FARO Factory Array Imager, with a human-collaborative robot in two configurations: either a fixed installation or turnkey mobile station.  The Robo-Imager fixed installation can be mounted anywhere in the factory and deliver automated measurements while the Robo-Imager Mobile is the same Robo-Imager mounted on an instrumented cart that can be quickly moved to wherever measurement tasks are required.

Launched in January 2016, the FARO Factory Array Imager is a new metrology-grade 3D sensor with blue light technology, capable of quickly capturing high-resolution measurement data for dimensional inspection on parts, assemblies and tools.  When coupled with a collaborative-robot, the Robo-Imager provides a turnkey solution to automate the inspection and verification of parts at any location in the production environment.

“The manufacturing world is quickly evolving, with smart factories, LEAN thinking, and emphasis on automation, driving the need to shift quality control and inspection processes closer to the production line,” stated Dr. Simon Raab, President and CEO of FARO Technologies.  “To that end, FARO is committed to developing new metrology solutions for Factory Automation.  The Robo-Imager does just that, moving metrology from the QC lab to the shop floor for improved productivity.”

The FARO Factory Robo-Imager, along with all of FARO’s 3D measurement hardware and software, are on display this week at the Control international trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany and the Hannover Messe fair in Hannover, Germany.   .  FARO EA Program members in Germany and the Eastern U.S. can order the FARO Factory Robo-Imager now. A general product rollout to the broader market is currently slated for the second half of 2016.  Those who have not already registered their interest in the EA Program can do so at:  http://www.faro.com/early_adopter/

Smart 3D imager arrays – A new class of automated metrology sensor provides sophisticated in-process measurement, minimizing integration and infrastructure costs

janvier 14, 2016

3D scanner

FARO Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: FARO), announces highly-adaptable 3D imager arrays that promise to drive automated industrial manufacturing metrology processes to the next level.

The new FARO Cobalt 3D Imager is equipped with dedicated on-board processors – an industry first. The smart sensor allows unique multi-imager array configurations enabling industrial manufacturers to significantly improve productivity and operations in a way never before possible.  An unlimited number of 3D imagers can be placed in array configurations virtually anywhere in a manufacturing process – all scanning simultaneously and controlled by a single computer.

Ideal for integration within the production environment, Cobalt can also be installed in more conventional ways, such as in conjunction with a rotary table, robot, or industrial inspection cell.  Combining blue light projection, stereo cameras and powerful on-board processing, Cobalt captures and processes millions of 3D data points in seconds. With high resolution, automatic exposure and high dynamic range, Cobalt expertly handles complex parts with fine details, varying colors, textures and reflectivity. Cobalt delivers fast and consistent measurements, independent of the operator, for quality inspection and reverse engineering applications on parts, assemblies, and tools.

"The FARO Cobalt 3D Imager delivers reliable and accurate 3D scan data within an automated workflow.  With no restrictions on the number of sensors in an array, the sky is the limit for improving inspection cycle time, making it an exciting new product that enhances the FARO portfolio for in-process or near-process inspection," stated Dr. Simon Raab, FARO’s President and CEO. "The price and capabilities of Cobalt make it a cost-effective, versatile, and convenient tool that delivers a rapid return on investment for customers in a variety of metrology and product design applications."

Dr. Raab added, “We are particularly proud of Cobalt’s patent-pending on-board processing feature, which ultimately helps simplify the integration of the sensor into advanced production environments. Coupled with FARO’s CAM2® Measure 10software, an unlimited number of Cobalt sensors can simultaneously capture large surface areas or complex assemblies. The configurable field of view, intelligent on-board point cloud processing and resolution can adapt to multiple measurement needs. Our analysis shows that for dedicated inspections of large products or assemblies, a fixed multiple imager array of Cobalt sensors will be faster, more easily integrated, more affordable, more accurate and easier to maintain than purchasing the robot-based imager or laser line systems currently on the market. Yet, Cobalt can also outperform as a robot-based system with its high resolution and data processing speeds in combination with its low profile and light weight.”

The FARO Cobalt 3D Imager is designed for quick and easy integration onto the production floor, and seamlessly connects with the full-featured FARO CAM2 Measure 10 metrology software.
