GGB goes to Mars on the Perseverance rover

janvier 20, 2024

Bearing
In February 2021, GGB bushings landed on Mars aboard the newest Mars rover, Perseverance.   GGB previously landed on the red planet in 2012 aboard the Curiosity rover on a mission to investigate conditions on the red planet to see if they may have been conducive to microbial life.   This time, mission Mars 2020 has the Perseverance seeking signs of ancient life, while also collecting samples or rock and soil for possible return to Earth. GGB worked with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to find the best tribological solution for use in the Sampling and Caching System. Ultimately, GGB and JPL decided on GGB's DP4-B bearings to be used in multiple places within the Sampling and Caching System on the rover, serving as the primary suspension components in the robotic drill arm for collecting martian rock.

DP4-B delivers the same dry running capability as DP4® coupled with the bronze substrate to improve corrosion resistance allowing the Perseverance's drill to function in the extreme Martian environment where temperatures range from -328°F to +536°F.

For GGB, global footprint is more than a reality, it is Augmented Reality!

janvier 15, 2024

Head sets, Ear plugs
The GGB site in Annecy was looking for a hands-free communication tool, adapted to an industrial environment, equipped with a camera, with a Wifi connection, to exchange remotely and/or provide technical support. The collaborative headset was the ideal solution because of its operational advantages.   The headset is equipped with a camera and an audio system with memory card and perfectly meets the specifications. The new system allows to go much further than traditional technologies (phones, tablets, GoPro,...) in terms of ergonomics, reliability or ease of use and opens a wide range of possibilities to users. The tool is all the more relevant now that the pandemic has made travel more limited.

Thus, on the the site in Annecy, the list of applications is growing steadily:
  • Virtual plant tour
  • Remote demonstration of equipment operation
  • Remote technical support for the start-up and maintenance of new equipment
  • Recording of an operating procedure by a referent to make it a reference that can be consulted by all for training purposes or continuous improvement
  • Recording of the way of working of production operators to then analyze with them the improvement areas and optimize their working time.
The headset is also used in GGB's Heilbronn facilities in Germany, and is expected to be used in the facilities in the United States, China and Brazil.

Urban Air Mobility - GGB starts cooperation with AtlasAero

janvier 05, 2024

Bearing
GGB and AtlasAero started a cooperation to actively participate in investigating future trends.   We are creating a new way of travelling: a personal, drivable hybrid aircraft that can take off and land vertically.

Congested roads, constantly rising fuel costs - the passenger transport sector is in need of fundamental changes. We want to take on these challenges and participate actively in designing them with our e-mobility solutions.    How about having a personal, drivable hybrid aircraft with which you can use existing infrastructure such as roads and garages, all thanks to the foldable wings. Benefit from the possibility of traveling at 300 km/h while consuming the same amount of fuel as a car.   GGB offers sustainable tribological solutions that are essential in UAM (Urban Air Mobility). We provide a full range of self-lubricating bearing solutions, such as our fiber reinforced composite bearings, metal polymer products and specially designed our polymer coatings.
