By combining both a magnet with a metal detector in a single system, Goudsmit Magnetic Systems of Waalre has recently made it possible to remove both ferrous and non-ferrous particles from flows of materials. This system, called the All-Metals-Catcher and removes ferrous particles from 25 microns and non-ferrous particles from 0.6mm from powered (bulk) goods, for example in the foodstuffs industrie. The magnet has a strong magnetic force of 12,000 Gauss and checks raw materials for iron upon the commencement of production, or the end product just before it leaves the production hall. Thanks to its low overall height, it is possible to incorporate the magnet plus metal detector in an existing production process.
For reaching the HACCP standard in the foodstuffs it is necessary to have a magnetic system integrated in the production process. With the right magnets metal particles can be removed at the very beginning of the production process. This avoids metal detectors rejecting finished products, damage to machines is limited and a great deal of consumer injury, with possible liability repercussions, can be avoided.
This magnetic pre-sorting means that considerably less product is lost than with detection alone. 70% of metal pollution is often caused by iron and can be removed by magnets. The metal detector fitted after the magnet ejects other metals without a great deal of loss of product. The detectors are not susceptible to external influences (such as: moving metal parts, vibration, frequency controls, etc., and are self-monitoring.
